Montanaro Gallery of Newport,
Rhode Island is pleased to present it's latest exhibition, 'Future
Primitive Jazz', featuring all new artworks by Harold Smith and Easton
Davy. This extraordinary show will debut with an Artists Reception
on Friday, August 8th, from 6-10pm at 18 Franklin Street in Newport,
and both artists will be present at the opening!
'Future Primitive Jazz', curated by Michael Paul Montanaro, brings
two very important emerging contemporary talents together in the spirit
of music, art, and creativity. All works included in this show will
be available for purchase.
Harold Smith, from Kansas City, Kansas has created all new vibrant
and expressionist acrylic on canvas paintings for this exhibit. His
works have become known amongst his many collectors as 'Jazzstracts',
a combination of abstract jazz figurative subject matter painted with
a richly textured palette. Using his passion for jazz culture as inspiration,
Harold has mastered the art of releasing it on paper and canvas, capturing
the musicians, instruments, and colors the music itself emanates.
"To me, one may learn the technical aspects of artistic painting
but the creative aspect is innate. I may mull over a concept or a
piece of music for weeks before it comes together on canvas. When
it comes together, I find a certain tension in painting as the paint
clashes with the canvas and with itself." -Harold Smith
Viewers of Easton's new body of works can expect to see musically
inspired subjects created using a combination of drip painting meets
collage with mixed media on canvas. A new series of burnt record assemblages
will also be on display. His art is progressive, raw, urban, and innovative.
Easton has shown his works internationally as well as at the Newport
Jazz Festival year after year. Themes such as 'Jazz Children' and
'The Downfall of America' are sure to fascinate and intrigue viewers.
The occasion of Harold Smith and Easton Davy exhibiting together at
Montanaro Gallery marks an important moment in art history. Both artists
have been fans of one another for many years and have yet to meet.
They will come together in artful celebration at Montanaro Gallery
on Friday evening, and will be available to meet friends and collectors
from 6-10pm.
'Future Primitive Jazz' will be showing from August 8th to September
7th, 2008.
All are welcome to join us for
the Opening Reception on Friday, Aug. 8th, from 6-10pm, or Saturday,
Aug. 9th, for a Live Paint Demo, from 7-9pm featuring both artists.
Each event is free and open to the public. Hope to see you there!
