"These new works are based on ancient rock paintings from Peru called petrogliphs. The elements, color and composition in the larger painted works come from a collection of illustrations I made this year based on a book of primitive line drawings made of images collected throughout Peru. So, the series is a group of paintings made from drawings made from drawings made from paintings. The thread stretches from 2000-3000 years ago to the present. The images of ancient Peru shares a simplicity of line with much of my work and a certain whimsy in its use of geometric, anthropomorphous and zoomorphic figures. The entire Petroglifos del Peru series will consist of 23 paintings, plus a collection of smaller works on wood, paper and canvas." -Andrew Sloan
